PERU 2-0 COLOMBIA
Peru won!!!! Yes, Colombia had most of the chances. Yes, Falcao missed a penelty kick. Yes, Moreno and Guarin both hit the post. But…PERU WON! 2-0 in extra time on some great shots. Both were helped with some goalie errors, but still, they were missles. Colombia had this one in the bag for most of the game with Peru being forced into playing the long ball and hoping for the best. Most of their good chances were outside the box and there weren’t many of them. Colombia controlled the ball for the most of the game but just couldn’t find that finishing touch
The game took a turn for the worse when the Peruvian defender, Rodriguez took down a Colombian in the box which resulted in a pk. I thought it was over for sure especially with Flacao stepping up to take the kick. Boy was I wrong. He missed the shot wide left. That didn’t deter the Colombians though. They still attacked and got plenty of opportunities. With one shot coming from Guarin where he blasted it over the Peruvian goalie Fernandez’s head hitting the crossbar flush. Somehow the Peruvians managed to get the game into extra-time.
In extra-time Peru managed to capitalize on a couple of mistakes by the Colombian keeper who has been pretty good throughout the tournament (No goals allowed by Colombia until this game). Coming off of a free kick, the goalie came off of his line and was unable to gather it, punching it out to Lobaton who was waiting outside of the box. “El Lobo” ran up to it striking it first time and sending it directly into the top left corner. 1-0. In the second half of extra-time Peru capitilized once again on the Colombian goalie’s woes. Guerrero intercepted a poor clearance by the goalie, took the ball into the box, laid it off for Vargas, who settled it and blasted it into the back of the net. No chance for the goalie. See for yourself.
Up next for Peru is Uruguay. As many of you may remember, these two teams played to a 1-1 draw. Every game Peru plays, I feel like they are not going to win. But every game they come out and surprise me with their play. I don’t even know what to think anymore.

ARGENTINA 1-1 URUGUAY (4-5) on pks
Messi again just putting passes on the money for his teammates to no avail. Uruguay’s defense held up even with Perez getting a red card towards the end of the first half. They later took the game into pks and did not miss one shot while Tevez missed his, and cost Argentina a spot in the semifinals. This Argentinean team will be remembered as the team that just underachieved. The whole tournament they we were unable to live up to the big names that were on the roster. I’ll leave you with the highlights and call it good.

BRAZIL 0-0 PARAGUAY (0-2)
On to the other underachiever of this tournament. Brazil had one win in the entire tournament like Argentina and lost in pks like Argentina. They just couldn’t find a way to get the ball in the back of the net. They had all of the chances in the game to score but they just couldn’t do it. Not even in pks could they score. They missed all 4 of their spot kicks. It looked like the turf on the penalty spot was bad because every time Brazil missed they would turn and look at the spot. No excuse for a team of this caliber though. Also looked like Neymar might have tweaked his knee in the second half because he had to come off. Anyways, Paraguay did just enough to move on and Brazil is sent home. Not a good start to the cycle leading up to a World Cup on their home soil. Highlights

VENEZUELA 2-1 CHILE
The other surprise team in this semifinals is Venezuela. They have played exceptionally well and knocked off a very good Chilean team to get to where they are now. This was a very good game with both teams going back and forth and Venezuela eventually coming out on top. It’s funny how two of the worst teams in South America are in the semifinals. I wonder how they will fare in qualifying for the World Cup. Hopefully well, for Peru’s sake. Highlights

ARGENTINA 3-0 COSTA RICA
I am 3 days worth of games behind…so I’m going to do a short summary of all 6 games in one post here starting off with Argentina. They played against the U23 Costa Rica team that did manage to beat a pretty weak Bolivian team. Now if you guys may remember, I made a certain prediction about this game. (see last paragraph) Safe to say I was exactly right. Messi dominated this game from the start. Perfect passes to everyone. If Higuain would finish every once in a while then this score could have been 6 or 7-0. Costa Rica was just no match for them and I would now be afraid to face this Argentinean squad who seems to have found their form. Highlights

Has it come to this? Brazil happy to get the tie? I’m sure this is not true, or at least it can’t be for this world power. But as was the case on this day, Brazil was facing a DEEEEEP hole if they were to lose this one but like most other world powers they find a way. The sambas needed a late goal from Fred (Neymar’s sub) in order to salvage a point. Currently Brazil have the same amount of points as Argentina and are facing the same situation: a must win.
Yes, I know I am behind on my Copa America posts but I felt this was extremely important to get up today. If you didn’t see this game, you need to go watch the replay somewhere. I think espn3.com might have the replay still available. This is an instant classic of a game. Top 5 game I have ever watched. Yes, I mean women’s soccer AND men’s soccer. Like I have said on my twitter (follow me @LerrySuarez) the women have really impressed me in this WC.

Peru wins! And i got to see it! I missed out on the Uruguay v Chile but from what I heard it was a pretty dirty game. Lots of yellow cards were handed out in that one. But I will get to that later. More importantly, Peru won! Yes it was against a U23 Mexican squad that only looked dangerous when Giovani Dos Santos was on the ball, but a win is a win and now Peru looks like it has a quarterfinal spot all but wrapped up.

So Bolivia ties Argentina and then goes on and loses to a U23 Costa Rica squad? Interesting…well as you might have guessed I didn’t see this game either. I’m beginning to think I shouldn’t be doing these reviews anymore haha. Well I won’t be able to watch today’s games again because of work. (This work thing sucks wouldn’t you say?) What makes that even worse is Peru plays Mexico today. FML. Oh yea, i’m reviewing Costa Rica and Bolivia…

Well…fell asleep during this one, literally. I missed another game yet again, this time because of a nap. Again, I didn’t miss much. Another 0-0 result. I am seriously more entertained watching the Women’s World Cup. I mean everyday there is another amazing goal scored by someone in that tournament. Well I’ll keep this one short yet again since I failed to watch.

Well, when I heard the score to the Peru game, I was shocked to say the least. No way did I think that Peru would keep it close with Uruguay, let alone tie, after their disgraceful showing against a U-23 Senegal team. Well not only did they keep it close, Peru tied Uruguay 1-1 and according to my cousin, they were not just sitting back on defense playing the counter attack. They were attacking on their own. Oh yea, and Mexico lost 2-1 to Chile today too…so another plus haha.
Sooo I know I said that I wasn’t going to do MLS this weekend but I just came across this goal scored by Darlington Nagbe of the Portland Timbers…definitely worthy of a blog post
